This paper begins with a survey of the first principles of permanent magnet machines and then proceeds to find the air gap fields caused by the magnets and armature currents. From these fields, the three most important parameters are derived: namely, the direct and quadrature axes inductances Ld and Lq and the open-circuit voltage EoKeywords
