Liberation of Inorganic Phosphate from Adenosinetriphosphate by Fractions Derived from Developing Rat Muscle.

Abstract
In a quantitative chemical study of developing muscle, there was a greater activity of ATP-ase than was compatible with the increase in the amt. of myosin proteins. Phosphatase activity was detd. in samples of muscle from rat embryos of 14 days, of 19 days, at the post-natal age of 1-2 days, and 9-10 days. There was an increase in activity with development. The myosin protein fraction contributes only a minor part of the total activity. This suggests that the apyrase activity is not confined to myosin.
