Ross River Virus (Epidemic Polyarthritis)

Abstract

The first report of epidemic polyarthritis as a novel disease was made by Nimmo ¹ in 1928 at Narrandera in New South Wales. An entomological survey carried out in the area before the 1928 outbreak found the most prevalent mosquito to be Culex fatigans (Cx. quinque-fasciatus) with some Culex annulirostris also present. No Stegomyiafasciata (Aedes aegypti) were found. ²
