Visual Field Studies of Benign Choroidal Melanomata

Abstract
Twenty-one benign choroidal melanomata were studied with reference to corresponding visual field defects. Visual fields were recorded using the Tübinger perimeter with static profile and kinetic techniques. Defects were found at the site of these benign lesions in the visual field with an 85% incidence. All of these were slight to moderate depressions in the photopic thresholds with small scotomata strictly localized to the size of the lesion or less. The lesions were studied ophthalmoscopically and with fluorescein angiography and stereophotographs in addition, and the findings are compared to those in other pigmented lesions of the fundus.
