Abstract
Titanium enolates of

-(benzyloxycarbonyl) amino acid esters react with aldehydes to give
anti
-isomers of
α
-alkylated
α
-amino-
β
-hydroxy acids. Best results were obtained with bulky aliphatic aldehydes and sterically demanding amino acids.
