Abstract
The possible presence in atopic dermatitis patients of autosensitivity to skin was investigated, using leucocyte cultures and autologous skin extracts. A slight mitogenic effect of these extracts was observed. Leucocyte response to phytohaemagglutinin was similar in range in normal human subjects and atopic dermatitis patients, but with fewer mitoses in the patient group. The concept of auto-sensitization to skin in atopic dermatitis cannot be considered as established.
