The chemical aspect of the drying of timber

Abstract

Air-drying resulted in depreciation of pentosans and water-soluble material, and an increase in lignin and cellulose. Kiln-drying prevented the increase in cellulose and part of the lignin. Oven-drying of green wood induced incipient hydrolysis of the wood substance.
