Hypophysectomy in the Treatment of Breast Cancer

Abstract
AS part of an over-all program at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Boston, to investigate and improve the management of patients with advanced cancer of the breast, the possible role of hypophysectomy has been explored. The purpose of this paper is to report a series of 53 patients with advanced carcinoma of the breast treated by surgical hypophysectomy. Each case has been carefully studied, and alterations in the rate of progress of the disease and in the endocrinologic background of the host have been documented. No attempt will be made here to review the large literature on hypophysectomy in cancer. . . .
