Psychosomatic Medicine: Somatization Reactions

Abstract
The percentage of patients hospitalized for physical complaints of a functional nature was very large during the past war. These do not differ from the functional organic complaints seen in civilian life. Psychologic components are especially important in cardiovascular disease, in gastrointestinal disturbances, in the whole group of cephalalgias, anthralgias and myalgias, and in allergic dysfunctions. The part that emotional factors play in these diseases is becoming increasingly recognized as a most promising area of medical research.
