Activities of this toad were studied in relation to low temp. at Big Bear Lake in the San Bernardino Mountains of s. California. The toads foraged at night as long as their body temps. were 3[degree]C or higher. The temp. of the lower inch of air and of the soil surface detd. the body temp. of the toads. Parts of the night too cold for activity and the daylight hours were spent in rodent burrows and beneath logs. Evening emergence was correlated with light intensity.
