Fissionlike component in theS32+Ge76reaction

Abstract
The underlying reaction mechanisms for the dissipative fissionlike process in the S32+ Ge76 reaction have been studied between 108 and 225 MeV of incident S32. The essential characteristics of the A>44 relaxed reaction products have been investigated by means of a time-of-flight spectrometer. The excitation functions for reaction, evaporation residue, fissionlike, and fusion cross sections were determined. Arguments in favor of an intermediate timewise mechanism between compound nucleus formation and deep inelastic collisions are presented.
