LIPOID PROTEINOSIS: TWO CASE REPORTS INCLUDING LIVER BIOPSIES, SPECIAL BLOOD LIPID ANALYSES, AND TREATMENT WITH A LIPOTROPIC AGENT

Abstract
Two cases of proven lipoid proteinosis were investigated for evidence of a disseminated metabolic disease. All the tests performed were normal or negative, including needle biopsy of the liver and ultracentrifugal analysis of the patients'' blood lipids. It was concluded that this disease is due to localized tissue anomaly associated with abnormal depositions of lipoid-protein material. Improvement in the lesions occurred following prolonged treatment with a lipotropic agent, lipocaic.
