I. A stamped handle and the Cretan labyrinth : A. Evans' theory that the Palace at Knossos was to be identifîed with the labyrinth of the legend was supported by a philological analysis which has sometimes been contested. New evidence from Malia, in the form of an amphora handle bearing two impressions, has revived the question of this identification and extended it to the other Cretan palaces. II. An ideogram incised on the base of a vase : The base of a jug engraved with the representation of a vase poses the question of the meaning of such a sign: could pictograms in certain instances represent something other than the object they depict? An affirmative answer would once more raise in particular the matter of the interpretation proposed in 1979 for the inscribed bar MA 10 (BCH 103 [1980], p. 1-27).I.
