Neutron Capture Gamma-Ray Spectra

Abstract
Photographic plates soaked in D2O may be used for gamma-ray studies. By measuring the ranges of the photo-protons resulting from the photo-disintegration of the deuterons in the D2O, the γ-ray energies can be found. The method is limited to γ-rays of energy above 3 Mev. The neutron capture γ-ray spectra of Al, Cl, Fe, Br, Cd, La, W, Au, and Hg have been obtained by this method. The results suggest a possible dependence of the shape of the spectra on the odd-even character of the compound nucleus.
