Abstract
Pressure induced transitions in polytetrafluoro—ethylene, nylon 6, natural rubber, and polyethylene were observed optically between diamond anvils. In all polymers examined, the decreases in thickness and in birefringence are irreversible, at least on the time scale of a few months. Keywords
