Analysis of the Reproductive Behavior of Heliothis virescens (F.)1 under Laboratory Conditions2

Abstract
The reproductive behavior of Heliothis virescens (F.) has been broadly categorized into two distinct phases. Precourtship behaviors include female calling, male activation, and orientation behaviors; these all rely on a unidirectional flow of behavioral information and are rather stereotyped in their sequence. Courtship involves numerous variably committed interactions between the sexes. Nonetheless, a common courtship sequence is apparent, with several points at which reproductive isolation from closely related species could be effected.
