The stereochemistry of the solvolysis of 2-silylpyridines by methanol and by water

Abstract

(+)-2-(Methyl-1-naphthylphenylsilyl)pyridine reacts with methanol or water to give pyridine with retention of configuration at silicon. This is strong evidence for a reaction mechanism involving a 5-centered cyclic activated complex.
