Abstract
Factors influencing the occurrence of crystalluria resulting from admin. of sulfadiazine and sulfamerazine have been investigated together with the efficacy of various methods for its control. At least 12 gs. of NaHCO3 daily were re-quired to raise the urine pH above the critical value of 7.15. KHCO3 was relatively ineffective, but the use of urea appeared to be beneficial. The admn. of sulfadiazine and sulfamerazine in mixtures containing equal parts of each drug led to a marked decrease in the incidence of crystalluria compared with that observed when either compound was administered singly. Keywords
