Photoemission spectra and band structures of-band metals. VIII. Normal emission from Cu(111)

Abstract
The normal photoemission spectra from Cu(111) have been calculated using a simple bulk-band-structure model. Momentum matrix elements are included and are calculated from the -space derivatives of a combined-interpolation-scheme Hamiltonian. For -polarized light the results are in excellent agreement with the recent experimental results of Knapp et al. For polarization, agreement is obtained only after an artificial suppression of the relative intensity of the perpendicular component of the electromagnetic field by a factor of ∼5. It is suggested that this suppression arises through local-field effects in the vicinity of the surface.
