The effect of metalloid composition on some magnetic and mechanical properties of Co75Si25−xBx glasses

Abstract
It is found that the magnetic moment, Curie temperature, and microhardness of Co75Si25−xBx metallic glasses increase significantly upon substitution of boron for silicon. The increase in magnetic moment is accounted for by a smaller electron transfer from boron than from silicon to the cobalt 3d band. The present glasses differ remarkably from the phosphorus‐containing glasses in that they do not embrittle as much on annealing just below the crystallization temperature.
