Weights and Measurements of Rocky Mountain Elk

Abstract
Standard measurements are given of Rocky Mountain elk, Cervus canadensis nelsoni, of both sexes and various age classes. Visceral wts., hog-dressed wts., dressed wts., whole wts., and wts. of heads, feet, and skins are recorded. Visceral, hog-dressed, and dressed wts. are expressed as % of whole wts. The somewhat definite and constant relationship existing between hog-dressed and whole wts. provided a basis for predicting whole wts. from hog-dressed wts.: "add 1/2 to hog-dressed wt." Various methods of making this prediction are evaluated on the basis of a sample of 22 elk.
