Abstract
Kinetic analysis of induction of recA protein synthesis after U.V. irradiation does not show correspondence with the kinetics of division inhibition in lon + and lon - strains, but there is correlation between induction and DNA repair activity. Protein X is stable and identical in both lon + and lon - strains. When the induction of recA protein after U.V. is drastically reduced by rifampicin treatment, no effect on the kinetics of division inhibition is observed.
