Abstract
SUMMARY: 1. Injection of methylandrostenediol (MAD) into normal rats caused no significant change in the protein content of the myofibrillar,sarcoplasmic or collagen fractions of the acromiotrapezius, diaphragm, heart, masseter or quadriceps muscles. 2. No change was found in the granular adenosinetriphosphatase (ATP-ase) activity of the muscles but the myofibrillar ATP-ase activity of the acromiotrapezius and quadriceps muscles was, however, significantly reduced by MAD treatment. 3. It is concluded that when the acromiotrapezius and quadriceps muscles grow under MAD stimulation the myosin fraction of the muscle laid down does not consist only of normal myosin.
