Computerized tomography findings in dural arteriovenous malformations

Abstract
Changes in the brain parenchyma and CSF spaces were demonstrated in 3 patients with dural arteriovenous malformations by computerized tomography (CT). In various combinations, there were: vermiform or patchy enhancement after i.v. contrast infusion, abnormal decreased density mainly in the white matter, local mass effect, hydrocephalus, dilation of the major venous sinus system and prominent vascular grooving of the skull inner table. Most of these changes were secondary to raised sinus pressure caused by arteriovenous shunt. Some elements improved after artificial embolization or surgical excision of the malformations, as demonstrated by serial CT.
