Treatment of a Child With Delayed Speech

Abstract
Description of the history and method of treatment of a 5-yr.-old [female] who had never uttered a sound. She was intelligent, very interested in her environment, and gave the impression of being, however, an abnormal child in appearance, behavior, and lack of speech. Her first word was "boom" in imitation of noises. It was not possible to do any direct stimulus of speech. She apparently was very badly inhibited.
