Theoretical Study of Tube Sinking through Conical Dies

Abstract
A study has been made of sinking of a tube, of a non-strain-hardening material, through a smooth conical die without any limitations on the diameter to wall thickness ratios, and instantaneous stresses and strains have been determined. It is shown that this theory gives similar values of external forces to a simpler stress solution based on mean tube radii. The equality has enabled coulomb friction and strain hardening to be included in an analysis of stresses and strains and has enabled drawing loads and thickness changes to be determined. Computations for the theories show the influence of the wall thickness to diameter ratio, friction and strain hardening.
