Abstract
Specific activity of lysozyme was determined in several tissues after various hormonal treatments: growth hormone, adrenocorticotropic hormone and thyroid hormone given to normal and hypophysectomized rats. After hypophy-sectomy the levels of lysozyme specific activity were increased as much as 2-fold particularly in the kidney. The spleen showed constant activity regardless of hormonal state or growth rate. Thyroid hormone has a marked inhibitory effect on lysozyme specific activity in un-operated or hypophysectomized controls. The important factor in the anterior pituitary is probably thyroid-stimulating hormone.
