Hypertension and Diabetes in Blacks

Abstract
This article summarizes the current state of knowledge on the interrelationship between non-insulindependent diabetes mellitus, obesity, insulin resistance, and hypertension in our attempt to explore the pathophysiology of the high incidence of diabetes and hypertension in the Black population in the United States. A central role for hyperinsulinemia is proposed, and questions are raised that are suitable for investigative clinical trials.
