Abstract
An extended-soliton solution to the low-energy heterotic-field-theory equations of motion is constructed from an eight-dimensional octonionic instanton. The soliton describes a string in ten-dimensional Minkowski space, and preserves only one of the sixteen spacetime supersymmetries. Keywords
