Abstract
In the rat heart, microsomal (Na+, K+)-ATPase activity is higher in the atria than in the ventricles. Activity of the enzyme in the heart is unaffected by hypertrophy, increased by feeding with potassium, and unaffected by feeding with sodium. Feeding with digoxin causes a transient increase in activity in the atria and right ventricle and a reduction in renal microsomal (Na+, K+)-ATPase activity.
