Abstract
Second‐order perturbation calculations of the paramagnetism of OUO++ ion were done. The contribution from pi bonds may be considerable. Although a bonding scheme utilizing only the 6d and 7s orbitals of U could account for experimental values, some involvement of 5f orbitals is suggested. There is no clear‐cut evidence for strong involvement of 5f orbitals in bonds. Keywords
