THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PITUITARY GLAND IN FUNDULUS

Abstract
The epithelial portion of the pituitary gland arises from ectodermal cells that proliferate to form a solid mass. Fibers from the infundibulum invade this mass to form the pars nervosa. The epithelial cells adjacent to the pars nervosa differentiate into the pars intermedia, the remainder of the pars glandularis forming the pars anterior.
