A Rapid Method for Lipoprotein Electrophoresis Using Cellulose Acetate as Support Medium

Abstract

A method for electrophoretic analysis of lipoproteins on cellulose acetate is described. This method provides improved resolution of lipoproteins and, therefore, offers new parameters for the evaluation of patients who have abnormalities in lipid metabolism. In addition, this method permits recognition of a difference between plasma and serum. It permits analysis in a relatively short time and is simple and convenient. The transparency of the cellulose acetate facilitates reproducible analysis of the lipoprotein staining by optical scanning.
