Ultrastructure of Middle Ear Muscle in the Rabbit: II. Tensor Tympani

Abstract
Two types of muscle fibers were observed. The first was of larger diameter with relatively few mitochondria and well delineated myofibrils separated by many sarcoplasmic reticulum. The myoneural junctions of these cells show well developed postsynaptic foldings. The second type was of small diameter with many mitochondria and poorly separated myofibrils with sparse sarcoplasmic reticulum. Their myoneural junctions show much less developed postsynaptic foldings.
