OBESUMBACTERIUM, A NEW GENUS FOR THE INCLUSION OF “FLAVOBACTERIUM PROTEUS”

Abstract

In order to avoid the increasing confusion of Flavobacterium proteus with other members of the genus, in which it is out of place, it is proposed to create a new genus Obesumbacterium, and to place the former F. proteus therein as sole species, the new systematic name for the common “short fat rods” of brewer's yeast thus being Obesumbacterium proteus (Shimwell & Grimes) Shimwell.
