Water Content of the Brain after Concussion and its Noncontributory Relation to the Histopathology of Concussion

Abstract
There is a small (0.5%) but statistically significant increase at 8 and 17 hrs. after concussion in the guinea pig, but no significant difference at longer intervals. The admin. of water by stomach tube produces greater increases in water content of the brain, and such increases are not associated with any histologic changes. Brain edema after concussion in the guinea pig is therefore slight and is not responsible for the histologic changes characteristic of concussion.
