Codehydrogenase I and Other Pyridinium Compounds as V-Factor for Hemophilus influenzae and H. parainfluenzae

Abstract
The V-factor requirement of Hemophilus influenzae and H. parainfluenzae can be satisfied by the following compounds: Codehydrogenase I, Dihydro-codehydrogenase I, Codehydrogenase II, Des-amino-codehydrogenase I, and Nicotinamide-riboside. The minimum concs. of these compounds which promote growth are approx.: 2 X 10-6, 2 X 10-6, 5 X 10-6, 5 X 10-6, and 0.5 X 10-6 [gamma] moles per ml. of medium. Acid-treated Dihydro-codehydrogenase I was inactive. 7 strains of the organism were used in these expts. Factors influencing the growth of the organisms and their nitrate reduction in relation to the bioassay of Codehydrogenase I, (V-factor) are discussed.
