Δ-Ni(phen)32+–montmorillonite as a template for asymmetric syntheses (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)

Abstract

Colloidal particles of Δ-Ni(phen)₃ ²⁺–montmorillonite(phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) act as asymmetric templates in the reactions (i) Co²⁺ with 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol to from an optically active Co^IIIcomplex and (ii)the reduction of benzil with NaBH₄ to (S,S)-1,2-diphenylethane-1,2-diol.
