Abstract
A model presented recently by the authors for the structure and thermodynamics of liquid alloys with strong chemical interactions is applied to Na-Pb and Na-Sn. They show that the thermodynamic 'anomalies' observed in these systems arise from the interplay of ordering effects induced by a preferred interaction between unlike atoms and packing effects. They demonstrate that the structural implications of the model are supported by a diffraction experiment. Keywords
