Abstract
Streptomycin inhibits the oxalacetate-pyruvate condensation reaction in animal tissue prepns. as well as in the bacterial cell. In the intact animal, however, it does not do so because it is prevented from reaching the site of the reaction in the animal cell by permeability barriers existing not only at the cell wall but also at the mitochondria. Keywords
