We discuss the neutral vector meson theory in a way which, by exploiting its similarity to quantum electrodynamics, simplifies the transition to vanishing meson rest mass. In particular the gauge invariance of electrodynamics is shown to be a special case of an invariance holding more generally in the meson theory.
