Abstract
Experimental observations relating the flow stress to the square root of the dislocation density are shown to be in agreement with the predictions of the theory of thermally activated deformation. Moreover, it is shown that τ0, from the empirical relation τflow=τ0+k′ρ1/2, is merely a product of the forced interpretation of the data in terms of a linear dependence of τflow on ρ1/2.
