Abstract
• A patient with pemphigus vulgaris was treated successfully with oral prednisone, azathioprine, and exchange plasmapheresis. At the sites of healing blisters, hyperkeratotic plaques with the clinical and histologic characteristics of acanthosis nigricans developed. This case and others cited in the literature suggest that acanthosis nigricans may represent an altered response to epidermal injury.
