Abstract
The dependence of the orbital angular momentum transferred into the intrinsic spins of deep-inelastic collision partners is studied. The correlation between energy loss and nucleon transfer calculated by the present method is compared with that derived by previously proposed empirical methods. The currently used empirical approaches appear to be subject to serious systematic errors.
