Typhoid Fever in the United States, 1975 and 1976

Abstract
Epidemiologic data on the 209 confirmed human cases of typhoid fever reported to the Center for Disease Control in 1975 and 1976 are presented. Associations of the disease with travel outside the USA, especially to Mexico, India and Asia, are discussed. The involvement of carriers and foods in transmission is mentioned. Data on the antibiotic sensitivity and phage types of isolated Salmonella typhi strains are included.
