In this review, some of the more recent concepts related to the pathophysiology of purine metabolism in man have been reviewed. Despite the concerted effort of a number of investigators, however, many questions remain unanswered. Hopefully, new clues will be unraveled as clinical and basic scientists continue to embark into may areas in the field which have remained virtually unexplored.
