Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the legal status of suspension and expulsion procedures for emotionally handicapped or behaviorally disordered students. Court decisions which involved the suspension or expulsion of a behaviorally disordered student were included for discussion. In addition, the survey of existing practices used by state education agencies was summarized. Implications for programming and disciplinary actions were formulated based on both the court decisions cited and the existing state policies which address this area of exceptionality. Keywords
