Influence of Hypophysectomy on the Lipolytic Activity of the Rat Pancreas

Abstract
A fall in the total lipolytic activity of the pancreas to about half the control level was observed at 3, 7 and 55±2 days after hypophysectomy. At 3 days the concentration of lipolytic activity was depressed, but it returned promptly to the level observed in nonhypophysectomized controls, with a significant depression no longer being evident at 7 days. In these respects lipolytic activity responds to hypophysectomy in a manner similar to that of proteolytic activity, a permanent change being observed only in total activity. Amylolytic activity differs in that the concentration also is reduced.
