Metastases of Human Melanomas Transplanted in “Nude” Mice2

Abstract
Three human melanomas grown in tissue culture were injected intradermally or subcutaneously into thymus-deficient “nude” mice. Invasive tumors were induced by 2 melanomas at the site of injection. All 3 metastasized to the cervical or inguinal lymph nodes and 1 to the lungs. Karyotypic analysis of the 3 metastatic tumors identified them as human.
