MASCULINIZATION OF FEMALE RATS TREATED WITH TESTOSTERONE PROPIONATE

Abstract
[female] white rats were treated with testosterone propionate from the day of birth. In the subinguinal region, a sacculus representing scrotal layers (Cooper''s fascia, tunica vaginalis communis, cremasteric muscle) was found. No scrotum was developed. This sacculus contained fat lobules and in 3 cases tubules were found on histological examination. They are considered to be mesonephric tubules stimulated by the treatment with [male] sex hormone. The testosterone treated [female] developed [male] type of hair.
